Malmö Citytunnel Gains Beijer Electronics Control System

Beijer Electronics has received a strategic order from Banverket, the Swedish National Rail Administration, Citytunnel project for control systems solutions through general contractor El & Industrimontage (EIAB).

"Infrastructure is a segment we're prioritizing, and one where we see major growth opportunities," commented Göran Sigfridsson, Beijer Electronics' CEO and President, "It's a segment where we've targeted rail solutions, which resulted in this second key delivery to Banverket."

Beijer Electronics has already provided the control system on the Botnia rail link, running along the Swedish north coast. The control systems solution for Citytunnel is an enhancement of the same successful concept.

The solution is based on an off-the-shelf Mitsubishi Electric system, plus an IEC-compatible protocol developed by Beijer Electronics enabling the control system to communicate directly with Banverket's super-ordinate system (GELD). Beijer Electronics' solution simplifies operation and represents a major cost saving.

Beijer Electronics and EIAB have collaborated on a series of major infrastructure projects including major road and tunnel projects north, south and throughStockholm (Södra länken, Norrortsleden and Nordsydaxeln) and the aforementioned Botnia rail link in Norrland. EIAB is one of Sweden's largest contractors for complex electrical and instrumentation installation projects.

The Malmö Citytunnel is one of Banverket's projects. It interconnects rail lines north of Malmö with the link to the cities of Trelleborg, Ystad, and Copenhagen, via the Öresund Link. Construction started in 2005 and is scheduled for completion in 2011. For more information, go to: www.citytunneln.com (http://www.citytunneln.com/)
